Social Work Reference Center (SWRC)

Information related to searching and using Social Work Reference Center, a specialized information portal for front-line professionals in social work and mental health.

Continuing education modules

Social Work Reference Center also includes access to a number of continuing education modules.

These modules have been developed by CINAHL. While continuing education requirements vary by employer, governing body, country, and province, CINAHL has been approved by a number of accreditation boards as a continuing education provider.

Each continuing education module consists of online course material, an interactive review or practice test, and a final competency test. A certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the competency test. Sample modules available include Alcohol Abuse During Pregnancy, Autism Spectrum Disorder in Children, and Communicating with and Counseling Clients with Visual Impairment.

You do not need to be a registered social worker in order to access or take these modules, but if you are a social worker you may want to consider the modules and assess if they fit into your learning goals under your annual participation in the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers’s Continuing Competence Program.

Accessing the modules

The continuing education modules are available on a separate website hosted by CINAHL. To access this website, click on Continuing Education under "More" in the top navigation menu.

On the next page you will be able to browse all modules. Clicking on a module will bring you to the CINAHL website. Note that the first time you access a CINAHL module you will need to set up an account.

For further information on setting up your account and accessing modules, see here.
