2SLGBTQ+ identities and child welfare

Supplementary readings relevant to topics and practice areas covered in the SOGIE course

About this guide

In this guide you will find supplementary readings and additional resources relevant to topics and practice areas covered in the OACAS course Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE), as well as OACAS's three SOGIE standalone eLearning courses (2SLGBTQ+ Identities; Anti-2SLGBTQ+ Oppression; and Challenges for 2SLGBTQ+ Children, Youth, and Families). It also provides information and resources on 2SLGBTQ+ identities and issues related to child welfare, with a focus on 2SLGBTQ+ young people.

Use the sidebar menu on the left to browse information and find resources – such as publications, videos, and websites – to inspire continued learning.

Terminology note

This guide uses the acronym  “2SLGBTQ+” which is an abbreviated acronym that does not fully capture the incredible diversity of queer communities. The letters in this acronym stand for Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning, respectively. The plus sign at the end is used to indicate that the acronym does not fully represent all gender and sexual identities.
